Maybe “AJAXify” is a word…

June 21st, 2007  |  Published in pointless

Over on ars technica, Nate Anderson posts about the “ten most hated words on the internet.”

Among the words he loathes is the term “AJAXify”.  Three things:

  1. He complains that “To AJAX” is not a verb.  The -ify suffix is applied to nouns (and maybe adjectives?), not verbs.   You can beautify some thing, but “to beauty” is not a verb.  You can’t “runnify” a race.
  2. “AJAX” is passé.  The term is Ajax now, and, no, it doesn’t stand for anything.  The community has realized that Ajax does not necessarily mean JavaScript or XML; so, no more acronym.
  3. I have never heard anyone say “AJAXify”.  Making up terms to be tired of is odd, at best.
He is correct on the annoying point, but let’s get annoyed with something real.  I think I am going to say “Ajaxify” as much as possible from now on.

All in all, this is a completely pointless post, and it shows my tendency to fixate on things that irritate me (just like Nate,) but it did allow me to throw out my “Ajax vs. AJAX” opinion.
